ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A bright holiday makeover awaited 18 local veterans on Wednesday Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) “elves” transformed the Veterans Village in St. Augustine into a dazzling holiday wonderland.

FPL decorated the village with thousands of LED lights, solar-powered displays and other energy-efficient decorations just in time for the holidays.

This is the 17th consecutive year of FPL’s holiday program, which aims to give back to local veterans for their service to the community.

“For partners like FPL to step up and do things like this really means a lot to us,” said Bill Dudley, chairman of the St. Johns County Veterans Council.

The Veteran’s Village, formerly the Old Town Inn, was transformed earlier this year by the Veterans Council of St. John’s County and Home Again. As part of an effort to reduce the number of homeless veterans in St. Johns County.

The event included handmade gifts from Anastasia Baptist Church, along with carolers to celebrate the season.

“I promise you, I have never seen a community give as much as St. Augustine, this community,” said Village resident and employee Jason Dibble.
